Gorgonzola mascarpone torta – Part 2

Can a cheese be too rich and too creamy? I think my household and friends refusing to eat more on the basis that they don’t want to induce heart attacks might suggest this is true.

Anyone who read my earlier post knows how excited I was about making gorgonzola mascarpone torta. This was probably part of the problem – way too high expectations. The idea seemed so good, I made the mascarpone successfully and it looked quite pretty (well actually it was a pretty messy but I figure I made it so I can think it looks good).

But really, I struggled to eat more than one mouthful! I will eat cheese to excess in almost any form, so this took me by surprise. It wasn’t bad, it was just so strong and creamy. Trying to eat it with figs instead of crackers helped (a bit), but even with five of us eating dinner, we could barely make a dent before having to give up. Admittedly, this was my version, so I should probably buy some and see what its supposed to taste like – maybe a whole different experience.

In the meantime,  I’m stuck with almost a kilo of cheese that I don’t know what to do with…hmmm.

  1. Hmmm, very rich … might pass on this as a Christmas treat – I want to make it to Xmas 2011 and beyond! … but it does look pretty, esp with the almonds.
